Bored during the Hols? Read :)

Here are some books which I enjoyed when I was a kid. See if you can find them in the library. Do let me know if you like the books after you've read them.

1) Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
(Ryan bought this book after reading an extract of it in our C.A.1 and he said he liked it.)
2) I am David by Ann Holm
3) Sing to the Dawn by Ho Min Fong
4) The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
(Choose the simplified version.)
5) A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
6) The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupéry

Hope you have found the revision and homework over the last 4 days helpful.
I would like to get you to discuss some of the common mistakes that we make.
Can you spot the mistakes in the following solutions? Explain why they are wrong.

Q1. Express 5.5m in cm.
Solution 1: 5.5 m = 505 cm
Solution 2: 5.5 m = 5500 cm
Solution 3: 5.5 m = 5005 cm

Q2. Evaluate 2 + 4 x 50 - 30.
Solution 1:
2 + 4 x 50 - 30
= 6 x 50 - 30
= 300 - 30
= 270

Solution 2:
2 + 4 x 50 - 30
= 6 x 50 - 30
= 6 x 20
= 120

Solution 3:
2 + 4 x 50 - 30
= 2 + 4 x 20
= 2 + 80
= 82

You do not have to go to school for the next few days due to the P.S.L.E. marking. Do spend the time wisely on preparing for your S.A.2.

Revision
1) Do the 3 English exercises (Grammar revision, Vocabulary revision, Editing) on the school portal.
2) Read at least 3 model compositions a day (from your Writing Folio, 'Every Child A Writer' on the school website or your own books.).
3) Study your Vocabulary Book.
4) Extra practice (optional) - Check out the revision papers by clicking on Practice Papers.
